For a state whose agribusiness feeds the world, it only makes sense to celebrate the Michigan-grown produce itself! The National Cherry Festival in Traverse City and National Blueberry Festival in South Haven celebrate the cities’ annual fruit harvest with food, drink, live music and family-friendly activities. The Mint Festival in St. Johns celebrates the mint farming heritage of the region with thousands of scoops of mint chocolate chip ice cream, and you can try your hand at competitive peeling or bake up a ribbon-worthy pie at the Michigan Apple Festival in Sparta!

As one of the most musically influential states — known best for the development of Motown, early punk rock and techno — it’s no surprise Michigan hosts several popular music festivals that draw visitors in from across the nation. Movement Music Festival, held annually in Detroit, is a three-day celebration of electronic music. Faster Horses in Brooklyn showcases an eclectic lineup of country music, making it a must-visit for western music enthusiasts. Michigan Irish Music Festival in Muskegon promotes Irish culture through live music, dance and more. And Electric Forest is a multi-genre music festival held among towering pines in Rothbury.

A vibrant scene of food and drink festivals flows throughout Michigan, making it an ideal state for culinary connoisseurs and foodies alike. Make your way to Crystal Mountain for the Michigan Beer & Brat Festival in May, or don your tropical attire for the Cheeseburger in Caseville festival each August!  Every November the popular Grand Rapids International Wine, Beer and Food Festival showcases Michigan’s finest restaurants — tempered by samplings of more than 1,200 wines and ciders from around the globe. Also in the fall, the city of Frankenmuth hosts its annual Bavarian Festival which, alive with the rhythm of German music and dancing, showcases traditional food and, of course, brews. No matter your taste, the Great Lakes State’s food and drink festivals have your palate covered.

Whether you’re a film or fine art buff, Michigan’s festivals are some of the most exciting and colorful events on the calendar. The Ann Arbor Film Festival, for instance, is a must-visit for indie movie fans. Taking place in March, this 50+-year-old festival is one of the oldest and most respected experimental film events in North America. The Fresh Coast Film Festival in Marquette, a documentary film festival celebrates the outdoor lifestyle, water-rich environment and resilient spirit of the Great Lakes by showcasing 80+ environmental films from around the world.

You can also catch awe-inspiring and thought-provoking works of art from around the globe at the Grand Rapids ArtPrize, the most attended public art event in the world. While a multitude of community and international art celebrations like the Ann Arbor Art Fair and Tawas Bay Waterfront Fine Art Festival celebrate local artists and draw in crowds from around the state and nation.
